It’s your boy B.Mims back for another week of my Raiders analysis. For those of you who have been anticipating this review like a check in the mail, i’m going to get straight into it. First off, the Raiders are coming of a much-needed win last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although it wasn’t pretty, the Raiders managed to make plays when it counted most to pull out a 26-23 victory at the O.co coliseum. It also worked in their favor that Jaguars starting RB Maurice Jones-Drew left the game early with a sprained left foot. The Raiders received additional favor whenJacksonlost their starting QB Blaine Gabbert, with an injury to his non-throwing arm, leaving backup QB Chad Henne to try and salvage what appeared to be an inevitableJacksonvillevictory. However, Henne looked visibly uncomfortable stepping in for Gabbert completing nine passes on twenty attempts, yielding a staggering 45.0 completion percentage. Sorry, but that’s never going to get it like a flaccid organ. Okay, Google the word “flaccid” and laugh later.

This week the Raiders fly through the friendly skies to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at the notorious Arrowhead stadium. Arrowhead is known for being one of the noisiest venues to play at in the NFL. I mean the place can sound like a Metallica concert sometimes. Anyway, some key match ups you want to keep your eye-beamers open for are as follows Willie Smith vs. Justin Houston. Willie Smith is the Raiders fill-in Right Tackle who has played sporadically well at best. Smith was initially signed by the Washington Redskins in 2011 as an non-drafted free agent. Smith was waived by the Redskins in 2012 and signed with the Raiders less than a week later. Smith has been starting in place for Oakland Raiders RT Khalif Barnes who suffered a groin injury in week 2 against the Dolphins. Smith will need to bring is “A” game as he will be facing K.C. pass rusher Justin Houston, who has already recorded six sacks for the season. Smith will need to find a way to slow downHouston, in order to give Palmer enough time to operate the offense. It will help ifOaklandis able to establish McFadden and get their ground game going, which has been a problem for them thus far.

Another match-up you want to pay attention to is the Raiders MLB Rolando McClain vs. K.C. RB Jamal Charles. Charles is illusive, explosive and can flat outrun just about any defender on the football field. Although he only rushed for 40 yds on 12 ATT’s in his previous game, he also has a season high 233yds in an overtime win against the New Orleans Saints. I expect Charles to see plenty of touches since the Chiefs will be starting QB Brady Quinn against the Raiders. Chiefs Head Coach Romeo Crennel gave Quinn the nod earlier this week when he made the following statement.

“”My biggest deal was my gut (feeling) in telling me that I needed to impact the team by changing the dynamic – by having a different dynamic,” Crennel said. “Brady Quinn is the guy I want to go with.”

However, Quinn is inexperienced as a starter in Crennel’s system and may not have a lot of chemistry with his receivers or offensive line. The Raiders front four should be licking their chops, salivating at the opportunity to go after Quinn. Their D-Line is the strength of their defense and if they can generate consistent pressure, it may be enough to expose Quinn and take advantage of his lack of the new kid on the block.

Week 7: Heart wrenching win for my Raiders today! A roller coaster ride all day; typical for a Raiders game. Raiders seem as if they came out flat in the first half, looked like we had left our game in Atlanta last week. I’m not going to lie, I was feeling like we were about to be embarrassed on our home field. And the way we started out it would have been deserved. We played like HOT GARBAGE in the first half, yeah we was stinking up the joint! Jacksonville had lost their starting running back, Bay area native, Maurice Jones Drew and their starting Quarter Back, Blaine Gabbert, and was stilling giving us the business leading 17 -6 at halftime.

The Raiders woke their game up in the second half, which was good to see, because they could have folded. They kept fighting, only giving up 2 field goals in the second half while scoring 20 points, including a 40 yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal in overtime to complete the comeback for a Raiders 26-23 win.

Darren McFadden still couldn’t get going in the running game for the Raiders. I’m really not feeling this zone blocking scheme they are using this year, put a hat on a hat and open up some holes. Carlson Palmer played a good game, except for one bone head interception. The way they fought back is a good look for the coaching staff; they didn’t give up and now are only one game out of first place for the division lead. (figure that) Next up is the division Rival Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s put together these back-to- back win fellas. This game wasn’t pretty, but you know our motto, JUST WIN BABY!

Comedian Chris Riggins

Chris Riggins….What more can I say other than if you haven’t seen him then you’re depriving yourself of an opportunity to be entertained by a historically funny comedian who’s blazing stages throughout the Bay Area and beyond!

Chris is naturally talented, making it a task for me to get through the interview with him. Upon arriving at our studio, Chris instantly had the Brickhouse Talk Team laughing nonstop. He’s one of those type of comedians who loves what he does and it shows. I’ve seen Chris on several occasions and he’s never disappointed with his material and his over animated stretching maneuvers on stage. Much like our interview, on stage he’s very relaxed and smooth with his delivery. I was really surprised to learn that Chris has only been doing stand up for 5 years, but then again the comedians that inspires him while on his comic journey are ones in which makes him delivery as a well season veteran.

He’s certainly a comedian that you should look out for as he’s working consistently to establish himself as replicable comedian in the industry.

Chris should consider implementing rap in his stand up….he has lyrical skills. Thanks for the Brickhouse Talk free-style rap!!!

You can catch Chris at work at TOMMY T’S in Pleasanton CA on Halloween Eve for The Ghouls Of Comedy.

Raiders vs. Jaguars Game Analysishttp://brickhousetalk.com/raiders-vs-jaguars-game-analysis/ http://brickhousetalk.com/raiders-vs-jaguars-game-analysis/#comments Sat, 20 Oct 2012 23:09:55 +0000 Brian Mims http://brickhousetalk.com/?p=5390 [Continue Reading]]]> This weekend the Oakland Raiders face the Jacksonville Jaguars at the O.co coliseum. The Raider should look to take full advantage as both teams have an underwhelming 1-4 record. However, the difference between the two teams is that the Jacksonville Jaguars currently rank dead last in points per game, yards per game, and passing yards per game. This means as a team, they are generating little to no offense. The Raiders are coming off a disappointing last minute loss against the undefeated Atlanta Falcons. They showed improvement in all around performance, especially there pass defense, however they will need to continue to build on that foundation, and execute that same competitive behavior in order to pull out a victory. Oakland showed their best commitment to running the ball last week, so I would expect to see more of the same in this game. Jacksonvillecurrently ranks 30th with their rushing defense, allowing a league average of 163.0 yards per game.

Look forOaklandto give Darren McFadden 20-25 touches this Sunday. Much likeJacksonville,Oakland’s offense is at its best when they are able to get their workhorse established.Oaklandis not a pass first team; however, I will expect them to take their shots down the filed, shouldJacksonvillehappen to play man coverage on defense. Especially ifOaklandcan establish McFadden, which would requireJacksonvilleto commit their safeties to stopping the run. Carson Palmer, who played a great game last week until he threw a costly interception, will need to take what the defense gives him. Don’t try and force the ball into tight passing lanes and avoid game killing interception at all cost.

This will be another big game for Oakland’s run defense. Although, Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones-Drew has only rushed for over 100 yards once this season, he’s bound to have a break out game sooner or later, which could easily come against the Oakland Raiders defense which currently ranks 18th, allowing 111.8 yards per game. Maurice Jones-Drew is pretty muchJacksonville’s entire offense. If the Raiders can holdJacksonville to under 100 yards rushing, I would look for them to come out with a convincing win.

RAIDER FAN REVIEWhttp://brickhousetalk.com/raider-fan-review-2/ http://brickhousetalk.com/raider-fan-review-2/#comments Tue, 16 Oct 2012 16:47:22 +0000 Ramonda Cutrer http://brickhousetalk.com/?p=5386 [Continue Reading]]]> Week 6 RAIDER VS FALCONS: My Raiders played a good game. They didn’t give up but came up short. A heart breaking 23-20 lost against the Atlanta Falcons. Coming off the bi-week, the Raiders came to play, intercepting Falcons #2 Matt Ryan 3 times in the first half. Even with a still banged up secondary, the defense got after it all day only given up 16 points to the hi-powered Atlanta offense playing steady pass defense and stout run defense. The Raiders lead 13–7 at halftime. It looked like we might be poised to pull off the upset and beat one of only two remaining undefeated team in the NFL at their house. We were in FG range midway thru the 4 quarter and the game was tied at that time, when QB Carson Palmer thru a pic 6. I would have run the ball on this play, you’re in position to take the lead; the run was doing well. The defense been ballin out all game – give them a lead and let the D bring it home. (I’m Just Saying) To Carson Palmer’s credit, he did drive us right back down the field and tied the game with 40 seconds left. But # 2 Matt Ryan drove Atlanta in to FG range and the kicker, Mat Bryant, hit a 55 yard FG with 1 second left on the clock. Can you say heart breaking loss, ‘cause that’s what this was. This type of loss hurt worse than a blow out, because it was there for the taken! We gotta strap up the chin straps and get ready for Jacksonville. We should pull that one off!!!!

Raiders Fall to Falcon 23-20http://brickhousetalk.com/raiders-fall-to-falcon-23-20/ http://brickhousetalk.com/raiders-fall-to-falcon-23-20/#comments Tue, 16 Oct 2012 15:21:08 +0000 Brian Mims http://brickhousetalk.com/?p=5380 [Continue Reading]]]> Fresh off of their bye week the Oakland Raiders flew to Atlanta to take on the undefeated 5-0 Falcons team. The Raiders entered the game with a dismal 1-3 record, with their only win of the season coming against the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. The bye week gave the Raiders additional time to prepare for what would be their toughest challenge to date. It’s no secret that the Raiders are paper thin in their defensive backfield. This definitely doesn’t bode well from a match up perspective, as the Atlanta Falcons boast two talented young receivers in Roddy White and Julio Jones. Head Coach Dennis Allen alluded to certain “tweaks” that the Raiders would install over the bye week, which appeared to translate into a much needed boost in performance. One noticeable tweak came on the defensive side of the ball, where rookie Miles Burris seems to have supplanted 1st round draft pick Rolando McClain in the Raiders nickel package. It also appears that the Raiders opened up the playbook a little more. Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey caught the Falcon defense off guard and was able to pick up a 20 yard gain for the Raiders on a running play, which resulted in a first down early in the game.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had his worst game of the season throwing 3 INT’s, which all came in the first half of the game. Raider Free Safety turned cornerback Michael Huff recorded his first INT of the season, as well Strong Safety Tyvon Branch and fellow Defensive Back Joselio Hanson. The Raiders dominated the Falcons in Time of possession, Passing Yards, Rushing Yards & Receiving yards, but also led in one other critical area……penalties! The Raiders recorded 12 penalties for 110 yards, in comparison to Atlanta’s 2 penalties for 25 yards. Simply looking at the stat sheet this would appear to be a game that would favor a Raider victory. However, the Raiders found a way to lose, giving away what would have been a huge upset and succumbing the Falcon for a final score of 23-20. Many point at Carson Palmers late 4th quarter INT as the final dagger in the Raiders coffin. However, with the Raiders very next offensive possession, Palmer led the team back down the field for a scoring drive, to tie the game 20-20. Inevitably, it wasn’t enough as Matt Ryan completed five passes, for 43 yards in 39 seconds, to set up kicker Matt Bryant game winning 55 yard field goal. The Raiders have a chance to get themselves back on target, as they have three potentially winnable games. They face the Jaguars, Chiefs, and Buccaneers, with two of the three games to be played in front of their home crowd. If the Raiders can win the next three games, they could possibly find themselves with a 4-4 record, still in the thick of things before having to face the Baltimore Ravens.

Gifted Singer & Actress Aaliyah Washington

As the CEO and host of Brickhouse Talk Productions one of my most enjoyable obligations is interviewing….especially when I have the opportunity to speak with “our kids”. The excitement in their eyes and the uncanny knowledge they posses is very refreshing. To witness that our kids still have dreams that are attainable reinstates my relentless hope that all is NOT lost despite the depressing media.

” Aaliyah Washington” is something special. I cant sum into words her energy, her intellect and her charisma and although she thanked me for the interview, Brickhouse Talk were the fortunate ones to be able to share her story.

She’s radiant and she’s gifted. Her eyes are mystical and while speaking with her I felt as if she was looking through my soul, which made me question myself “Am I doing all that I can do?? At the age of 11 she’s the founder of the Christmas In Richmond feed the homeless foundation. She’s also a motivational speaker to kids her age and did I mention she sings beautifully while also acting. Most importantly she believes in God and knows him personally for herself. Aaliyah Washington is simply anointed.

Some of you may not understand this interview, but this will be by far one of my most fondest interviews because the Brickhouse Talk staff and the family of Aaliyah were not the only ones present during this interview at our studio!!!

Please search for Aaliyah’s name on the Brickhouse Talk website to read about her remarkable story.

Brickhouse Talk Listens To The Soul Of Singer Nicky DePaola http://brickhousetalk.com/brickhouse-talk-listens-to-the-soul-of-singer-nicky-depaola/#comments Tue, 02 Oct 2012 05:24:51 +0000 Ramonda Cutrer http://brickhousetalk.com/?p=5317

Soulful Singer Nicky DePaola

Born and raised in the soulful east bay town of Pittsburg, Nicky D was a child of the funky 70′s! Blessed to have a Mother who loved music and played albums always. From Sinatra to Motown she always told him he could be whatever he wanted in this life and gave her son everything a divorced mother could give and more!

Nicky D remembers seeing the legendary Elvis Presley “Live” in Lake Tahoe when he was 11 and it was that night he knew that he wanted to be an entertainer. Nicky D knew that he could sing all the songs that were playing on the radio but his vocals were significantly enhanced when he started to work with his vocal teacher’s in JC to perfect his very own “perfect pitch”.. and it did take much time for him to find his distinguished voice. Once it was recognized Nicky D began to entertain all his friends in high school. Music was truly a gift as Nicky D never studied music in school. It was just his natural God’s given talent.
Not only did he have a soultry voice of an angel he also had wings on his feet. And today he’s still ranked in the all~time top 10 at Pitt High (class of 81′) his marks in the 100 yd (9.55) & 220 (20.99) are still amongst the best ever in the east bay! He was also the starting WR for the Pitt Pirates 1980 4A NCS Football Champions (the first ever to run a 4.4 40yd)
An unfortunate injury at the Oakland Coliseum put a halt on his athletic career. While recovering Nicky D took some vocal classes at DVC. His first “gig” was a friends wedding, singing with background voiceless tracks in 85′ and one opportunity led to another!
Longing to make his very own music, in 1995 his aunt knew someone who knew someone in the business named Jerry Stucker. Jerry produced Nicky’s very first 3 cd projects (from 95′-03′) ..”This Game Of Love” had major airplay with the Rose Royce cover, “Wishing On A Star”..in 2000 my second project, ” A Song In My Heart” had distribution with Rhombus Records and again major airplay. It was at this time he landed on the A/C Top 40! Peaking at #29 with his version of “Pillow Talk”..A big memorable accomplishment.
In 2003 he recorded “Uptown Mood” at Hollywood’s Capitol Records, with sax legend Ernie Watts, that was an awesome experience for Nicky D!
Nicky D continued to do shows across the country (as a solo act) armed with 300 voiceless CD tracks. He established a 2 year contract at Reno’s Peppermill Hotel Casino, playing the main lounge 10 weeks a year. He was voted best lounge act in 2002 (Reno Mag) and was noticed there by the UA Pipe Trades Union as I was asked to fly to Miami’s Fountionbleu Hotel to entertain for the 10,000 who would be there! The day after “Hot August Nights”.
Nicky D was blessed to have hooked up with Dan “The Maestro” Daniels in 2002. The two have been making their mark as a duo all over the north coast. Collectively putting together “The extreme all~stars” a nine piece band that is like no other. They can be found on youtube as “Nicky D & The All~Stars”
Nicky D’s singing career keeps him very busy and he is thankful to God for that. Look out for his next project to be released in Feb. 2013 “Heart & Soul..The Essence Of Nicky D”
