In tribute to the Summer 2012 Olympics I believe it only respectful that I acknowledge an athlete who’s really representing our country! With so many to choose from such as Michael Phelps, Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh, Serena Williams to name a few it was a very difficult decision. While listening to music on you-tube before the video played there was a P&G tribute to Mom’s commercial “Raising An Olympian” that completely moved me. It told of a story of a Mom who was blessed with a very talented little girl who at a very young age began to demonstrate her amazing gift naturally. She began training in gymnastics at age six when her older sister, Arielle adamantly convinced their mom to enroll her in gymnastics classes. Her training began under the supervision of coach Dena Walker at Excalibur Gymnastics in Virginia Beach. At the age of eight, she won the Level 4 all-around gymnastics title at the 2004 Virginia State Championships. But in order for her daughter to seek her full potential she had to intrust her daughters well being in a family she didnt know thousands of miles away. Imagine how difficult that must have been. The many nights I’m almost certain she wrestled with if she made the right decision on her daughters behalf…..but sometimes we have to LET GO and LET GOD! The determined athlete moved to Iowa . Coach Walker invited Olympics Coach Chow to teach a clinic at her gym, Excalibur. Douglas was impressed when Coach Chow was able to teach her how to perform the Amanar vault in a single afternoon and they have been inseparable ever since!
Look at GABBY DOUGLASS today!!! One of the United States shinning stars. Gymnast Gabby Douglas made Olympic history on Tuesday as the first African-American to win the gold medal for individual all-around and the young athlete is still in disbelief over her inspiring success. She’s so exciting to watch as she possess a very humble demeanor and always given credit to God. “When I send praises up and send blessings down” says Gabby Douglas during an interview after winning gold. She’s young and courageous and certainly a inspiration for our youths of today to follow your dreams no matter how great! Gabby Douglas is certainly a Brickhouse Athlete with a dynamite smile that compliments her extraordinary talent!
